TRACTION AND ROLLING STOCKThe Traction and Rolling Stock branch is responsible for developing, implementing and efficient provision of reliable locomotives, wagons, coaches and plant/equipment.

Departments

  • Head Office

The Head Office is responsible for formulation of Branch policies, planning, controlling and monitoring of all branch activities.

  • Workshops

The two workshops in Bulawayo and Mutare carry out heavy maintenance work of service classes E, F and G as well as major repairs and renewals/refurbishment/modification work on locomotives. In addition, the branch is also responsible for the maintenance of plant and equipment in the workshops and depots.

  • Depots

The motive power depots in the Southern, Midlands and Eastern areas are responsible for carrying out the turnaround service (TR), A, B, C and D maintenance services as well as out of course repairs on locomotives.  Similarly, the carriage and wagon depots are responsible for running repairs and maintenance work on rolling stock.

  • Analytical Laboratory

The Analytical Laboratory carries out destructive and non destructive test of components and materials, qualitative analysis on lubricants, water and chemicals.
