PASSENGER SERVICES
The NRZ Passenger Services provides a regional link to four SADC countries namely South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia and Botswana by rail. This massive service has a rail network that is directly linked to major tourism attractions in Zimbabwe. The majestic Victoria Falls and the biggest Game Park in Zimbabwe Hwange National Park are on the North east line that leads from Zimbabwe’s second largest city Bulawayo to neighboring Zambia. Bulawayo in its own right is a beautiful, friendly city that is only 40kilometres from the Matopos Hills and Game Park were the grave of Cecil John Rhodes is located. The Great Zimbabwe Ruins located in the city of Masvingo is also an area of tourism interest. From the capital Harare we operate a train service to the Mountainous City of Mutare which offers great scenic mountainous views, waterfalls and hotels. Our tourism rolling stock is made up of vintage wooden coaches, some of which have seen 70 years of life. The fleet is well maintained and is only run on special occasions like the valentine days, mother’s day and they are also available for charter. We also offer premier private diesel or Garratt’s steam locomotive chartered train services. Our ordinary overnight passenger and parcels services is competitive. Prices and conditions of special trains are quoted on request.
Safari Trains
These are leisure trains hauled by Steam and Diesel Locomotives and are especially designed for holiday makers. The coaches are wood paneled allowing passengers to experience Africa on rail in a unique way as they view the country’s spectacular landscape and the rich endowment of wildlife as the train navigates through the game parks. To cap it all a catering service offering food, drinks and cold beverages is available on board. Why not try the steam train and get to experience the majestic ride on wheels.
Parcels Services
- Railcon Service is a service for the transportation of small parcels overnight to the major cities in Zimbabwe. This is a prestigious express rail service that is offered exclusively by NRZ Passenger Services to meet modern packaging requirements of Industry and Commerce in Zimbabwe. They are completely collapsible containers constructed out of aluminum alloy.
Railcons are robust and easy to handle and afford infinitely greater protection to your goods against breakages or pilferage. Railcons are capable of being used to package an array of goods. Our parcels section is more happy to assist you convey your goods in a friendly manner.
Rail Star Service
This is an express overnight parcels service by Passenger train that is tailor made for customers who require short transit times.
Items moved by Railstar include the following
- Urgent mail and documents
- Perishables
- Valuable parcels
- Commercial goods in boxes, cases, crates and hampers weighing less than 125kg each.
- General and household goods.

Intercity Passenger Trains
Intercity Passenger Trains provide an important service between major cities in the country. The Bulawayo to Victoria Falls route operates some unique brown coaches with wooden paneling that are unique in their own right. The NRZ currently operates on five domestic routes as shown here under.
